PSEMC FORCE PROTECTION SYSTEMS
Force protection is an increasing priority to our armed forces
personnel and assets. PSEMC has leveraged its historical leadership
in crew protection and escape systems into the new realities of
ground warfare.
PSEMC is a major partner to the US prime contractors in developing
key sub-systems of Force Protection Systems including:
- Active Protection Systems to defeat RPG and ATGM
threats.
- Non-Explosive Reactive Armor
- IED Defeat Systems.
- Fire Suppression Systems.
Active Protection Systems
PSEMC has played a key role in developing the
following Active Protection Systems:
US Army Integrated Army Active Protection System(IAAPS)

IAAPS Active Protection System (web)
The goal of this TARDEC S&T program was to develop and demonstrate
a full-spectrum protection system using integrated passive and active
sensors, soft kill countermeasures (jammers, decoys) and hard kill
active protection system devices. The system is designed to protect
vehicles from direct fire and top attack threats.
PSEMC developed and produced warhead safety
and arming device for the IAAPS program.
Close-In Active Protection System (CICM)
CICM Launch System with 2 Multi-gun Countermeasures
(web)
The BAE Systems CICM active protection system is comprised of threat
detection, tracking and fire control subsystems and a launcher that
fires a PSEMC multigun munition barrage of 55 pellets, forming a
"wall" of steel. CICM provides RPG protection with low
collateral damage and is adaptable to a wide range of ground, sea
and air platforms

Raytheon Quick-Kill Active Protection System (QKAPS)
Quick Kill active protection system, designed
by Raytheon, destroys threats fired from any location around or
above the vehicle with minimal collateral damage. The PSEMC interceptor
performed a vertical "soft launch," pitched over, accelerated
to the point of intercept, fired its warhead and destroyed the RPG.
Textron Defense Tactical RPG Airbag Protection System
(TRAPS)

RPG Defeated by TRAPS Countermeasure
TRAPS combines an inexpensive radar and PSEMC actuated airbag deployment
system which contains a PSEMC countermeasure which disrupts the
shaped charge fuse, as the projectile collapses upon itself, jamming
the time-out fuse before it hits the vehicle's skin.
TRAPS is a safe, proven and cost-effective RPG defeat system that
is suitable for both tactical and combat vehicles.
Passive Protection
Non-Explosive Reactive Armor
PSEMC is under contract to explore non-explosive reactive armor
which will provide safer vehicle protection against tandem warhead
threats.
IED Defeat Systems
Mobile Obliteration Platform (MOP)

Remotely Controlled Mobile Obliteration Platform

One of the toughest challenges facing coalition forces operating
in Iraq and Afghanistan is the threat of IED’s. PSEMC is working
with MOP developer SRI. The system uses a low cost wireless controlled
platform mounting SRI's countermeasure.
